Composer / Producer
Provençal composer of electronic & contemporary classical music. Melismas, modality, microtonality, drones & ornamentation. Creator of imaginaries.
Angelo Valenti Bayraktar is a Provençal composer who studied musicology at the University of Aix-Marseille and then composition at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. In 2022, he obtained a Master's degree in Acoustics and Musicology and in 2023 a Certificate of Musical Studies in composition. His musical language draws on melismas, modality, microtonality, drones, and ornamentation from traditional Armenian music. Materials from sacred and secular music written between the Middle Ages and the 21st century. For his chamber, electronic, or mixed music, he creates around stories, images, and concepts from fantasy or science fiction. Some pieces are inspired by the poems of Paul Valéry or Arthur Rimbaud, or the stories of Frank Herbert or Philip K. Dick. Others pay homage to the music of Olivier Messiaen, György Ligeti, or Bill Evans. Still others refer to the mythical places of his Sicilian or Armenian ancestry. His discovery of the treatises of Olivier Messiaen and Charles Koechlin, as well as his encounter with Professor Etienne Kippelen, who introduced him to instrumental composition, reinforced his desire to compose. While pursuing his interest in sound synthesis, Angelo was introduced to cellist Guillaume Rabier and his future research supervisor in musical technologies, Vincent Tiffon. Their goal was to prepare an educational day dedicated to the work of Jean-Claude Risset. During his training, Angelo completed his Master's internship at the CNRS, in the archives of Risset himself, participated in the design of a virtual organ instrument, and wrote the soundtrack for a video game developed with his classmates. In 2023, he won a composition competition in Montpellier with a piece for flute, violin, cello, piano, and percussion entitled Annigghiatu, which literally means “foggy” in Sicilian.Angelo's album Hildegard is set in the universe of a fictional role-playing game. Its 11 tracks, linked to the 3D artifacts on the cover designed by Azad Bayraktar, translate into sound his reflections on identity, the interaction between humans and machines, the link between humankind and nature, relationships between individuals, and our ties to mysticism and magic. The music progresses through scenes in which synthesized sounds interact with traditional instruments. This album pays tribute to Hildegard von Bingen, a mystical figure of the Middle Ages, whose literary and musical contributions resonate with a world facing ecological challenges, new technologies, and a renewed interest in beliefs and spirituality.
